LIFE
REVIEW
If a highlight reel of your life was playing on the big screen, would you enjoy the show? If your whole life flashed before your eyes, what would you do differently?

People who survive a near-death experience commonly report seeing a review of the life as if it was being played on a screen. For some it appears chronologically from birth to death, while others see select scenes. However, the focus isn’t on their greatest achievements, instead they see the good and the bad. While reflecting on your darkest moments may cause feelings of shame, they report the opposite. Free from judgement, they see that every moment and choice in life has ripple effects, reaching much farther than they ever realized. This perspective shows what truly matters.
Most of us would probably enjoy seeing a highlight reel of our accomplishments and successes. But what if the movie of your life showed the good, the bad, and the ugly? NDEs commonly report having a review of their lives in totality.
These life reviews are experienced in a few different ways. Some remember having the entirety of their life flash in an instant before their eyes. However, others share that the experience was much more extended and personal. In these life reviews, a heavenly host walks them through various points of their life, accompanying them on an intimate journey. Through both the happy and the sad, these companions guide them through events and the thoughts and intentions behind them. Sometimes the life review looks like a movie. For others, it’s like a PowerPoint presentation. For some it happens chronologically from birth to death, while others just see selected episodes of their lives.
“What have you done with the life I gave you?”
Regardless of exactly how the life review happens during the near-death experience, there is always a common purpose. The life review helps them to see the value of their life and to see the most valuable things of life in general. In other words, they get to see what really matters. Most report hearing a piercing question from the one guiding them, “What have you done with the life I gave you?” While most of us would answer with our proudest accomplishment, the life reviews always focus on relationships. In fact, many notice that the points they thought most important were actually left out. Instead, they watch moments when they were harsh, selfish, or unloving to others. They are able to see these embarrassing moments from a new perspective and they see their affects. Every moment and choice in life has significant ripple effects, reaching much farther than they ever imagined. As they sought to make something of themselves, they watch as those around them suffer. They find the true success of life is loving their neighbor, not changing the world. It is the small and seemingly mundane things of life that actually matter most.
A judgement-free zone.
Seeing your darkest thoughts and ugliest moments would seem to bring up feelings of judgment and shame. Yet, they all reported quite the opposite. Even at their worst, the host guiding them through their life did not waver in his love. Although there may have been feelings of disappointment, the sense of acceptance ultimately won out. This intermediate death experience was not the time for judgement. That was for the very end when everything and everyone will be fully accounted for in this life. But, for this intermediate period, they felt free from judgement or having to prove themselves. They had no place or need to compare themselves with anyone else.
Their life review turned out to be a miraculous second chance, a chance to contemplate their lives and what really matters. Would they continue in their old ways or change course to focus on loving others? What would they do with the precious life given to them?
